40 Fools Gold 1989

From The Shadowless Land of Used-to-Be

This was my experiment in just writing the lyric, recording the melody with only a drum track and giving it to my friend, Steve, to do all the guitar parts. I monitored my DX7 so I could play a constant pitch throughout to stay on tune, I also had the drum track in the monitor, too, so I could stay on tempo. I recorded my vocal and the drum track onto my Tascam 244 4 track, and then took it to Steve. From the melody alone he build up the different guitar tracks.

The only copy I had of it was a cassette tape. My vocal was mixed way too far back. So I used iZotope RX11 to fix any noise problems. Then I used the vocal isolate of RX11 to separate my voice from everything else. I used RX11 Music Rebalance to extract the drums, bass, and guitar parts onto separate tracks. I imported them all into LogicProX and started working on them. I used Melodyne to fix any vocal pitch problems, which were minor. Then I EQd the vocal using iZotope Ozone11 Advanced. Did the same for the guitar parts and drums. I rewrote the bass part. Put it all together and the result was surprisingly really good compared to the cassette tape.
